From November 16th – 18th the 3rd Caribbean Heritage Conference took place at the Curacao Renaissance Resort, with over 170 participants attending the three-day conference. More than 80 international attendees represented over 17 different countries, including Cuba, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, the Cayman Islands and many more.

With 6 keynote speakers and 17 expert speakers covering a variety of heritage related topics, the conference has brought together heritage professionals from the broader Caribbean region to exchange knowledge and expertise. Topics ranged from underwater archaeology & heritage, marketing heritage, financing preservation & renovation and adaptive re-use of built heritage. The conference was being held for the 3rd time, with the previous conference taking place in Trinidad & Tobago.

2017 marks the year in which Willemstad is celebrating its 20-year anniversary as a UNESCO world heritage site. The conference preludes this celebration. The organization was taken on by partners of the Curacao Heritage Platform, led by the Curacao Monuments Foundation (Stichting Monumentenzorg) and the Curacao Monument Fund Foundation (Stichting Monumentenfonds).
